FROM THE CURATOR
Yei Duran is a painter of essences and everyday life of the Wayuu community. Their faces, mostly children, show us the joy of living. The eyes of these children investigate us and make us wonder what is there beyond those disturbing looks. When seeing her works, that required communication between the spectator and the painting itself, is established. Throughout the history of art the representation of the human being has been a constant and Yei continues with that representative dynamic that is why her work opens new avenues to figurative painting and it tunes us with a tomorrow where this type of work will continue to be carried out. Figurative artworks and artists who work within this direction will hope to continue existing.
FROM THE ARTIST
My art is inspired by the Wayuu Indians of La Guajira, Columbia. Through my art I want to express the beauty of this forgotten culture, and I also want to tell people the one must embrace their culture and not turn away from it.
