DANIELLE DEE DODGE
FROM THE CURATOR
Her works are container forms of worlds in color. These internal and external worlds inhabit dynamic spaces of geometric shapes in continuous movement. Our gaze tries to be located at some point, but the composition itself causes the gaze to move throughout the whole picture. Her style is expressionist, not with an overflowing of color, but controlled by creative hand and thought.
FROM THE ARTIST
Emotional states are storms of space and color that must be released. Moods infect and inspire me. I often deploy them in illustrative and expressionistic ways.
I’m influenced by the will of the art itself. It has a mind of it’s own! Sometimes, the canvas guides me more often than I plan it out. Even more often, my plan is disowned midway when the creation takes over, having it’s own will to be born as it is meant to be. Having their own character and power, each piece can influence the viewer in expansive ways, and bring a new energy to the space in which it lives.
