Alix Brignol

In the work of Alix Brignol we find perfectly defined what we know as the hybridization of cultures. His compositions have strangely particular figurations and in them he relates perfectly past and present in the history of painting. In some of his works that tend towards abstraction, the artist creates a dynamic spiral movement which can be approached in reverse paths of ascent and fall. At the same time, the eye travels the
composition looking for a point to rest the rhythm created by the artist. When the stony face of death appears in his figurations, he has a party-like rictus in the midst of the
tragedy of life.

Alix Brignol has been painting all of his life as far as he can remember. Born in Haiti he migrated to the US at the age of ten in the early 70’s. Living in New York city’s East Village in the 80’s and being around so many graffiti artist such as Basquiat, Scharf, Warhol and Haring, he never thought of being a full time artist, he was enjoying life and being a musician! Still he painted and painted was therapy as he puts it. He has gone from the 80’s initially as an art mover to gallery administrator in midtown Manhattan to a Christie’s auction house administrator to assisting a well established artist for over two decades to an art dealer and finally full time artist!

Alix Brignol's career has taken him full circle to being a full time artist, distinct and vibrant from anything that one might see in the art world today and a must have to any collection!
